Discovering Laurence Olivier

Across three acts, the film follows Olivier from the Birmingham Repertory stage to the founding of the National Theatre, using the sound recordings kept by his stage managers as its spine.

Rather than a chronology of triumphs, the film attends to method: the notebooks, the vocal drills, the arguments with designers, and the long silences that colleagues remember more vividly than the performances.
